Google and Samsung have announced that they are joining forces with allowing Google’s ARCore VR toolkit, to now work on Samsung S8 and S8+ phones. Google have made great strides with their VR Toolkit, but previously this was only available for selected Pixel phones. Now that list brings in Samsung into the fold.
What this means to the consumer, is less of a fractured ecosystem. Essentially the only other competitor is Apple’s own VR offering on their iPhone/iPads. It remains to be seen how well and much this becomes adopted by developers, but given Google’s might and the success of the S series of phones from Samsung, it is a worthy competitor to Apple.
